Background
Achim Gerstenberg graduated with a MSc in physics in Germany and a PhD from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in early-stage product development with the focus on cyber-physical systems. Previous experiences include research on graphene detection, reaction kinetics during the oxidation of aluminum and a variety of engineering projects from autonomous vehicles to medical devices.
Research area
Gerstenberg works on hardware development related to plant and cell experiments. This includes developing equipment for parabolic flights, how to keep cells alive for research on the International Space Station or how to grow potatoes in 3D printed sponges. Gerstenberg greatly enjoys building prototypes for testing and exploring new concepts and new ways to solve problems.
